Dear colleague,
My name is Ron Rohac and welcome to our new web-site that I'm sure your teachers will find helpful as they plan and search for ideas to help with their lesson plans. One of the most challenging groups of students teachers face today are the English Language Learners (ELL students). This is especially true in the content areas such as math, science, and social studies where teachers are expected to use S.D.A.I.E. (Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English), or Sheltered English as it is called in many parts of the country. Workshops and staff development days provide some answers but day after day teachers and administrators are faced with questions or looking for ideas on how to work with these students in the content areas with no one to turn to. Many teachers have tried to go on the web to look for answers and have had little or no success. Well our new web site will change that. This web site will provide needed technical support for teachers by being able to answer their questions, sample lesson ideas, weekly articles and suggestions and links to important and useful resources for teachers to look through. In the near future, teachers will be able to log in and catch an interactive lecture on teaching strategies with video or a direct link sent to their own computer. Perhaps they wish to log in to a discussion center to talk with other teachers about their situation and special needs students or perhaps they want to leave an open message on the bulletin board to share classroom situations, link to another classroom to write to or just leave a message to share a great moment in their classroom. The whole point of the web site is to provide answers for teachers in the field as these questions arise.
This is the first S.D.A.I.E. dedicated site. Teachers and districts have been asking me for several years to sit down a plan this site to provide their teachers with more access to the consultant. Whether its an extension of an already existing consulting program or a new service you are contemplating, teachers will enjoy going to this site because they will get and find answers to their questions, resources to help them and professional links to more materials and resources. With the state's renewed emphasis on consistent implementation of S.D.A.I.E. and E.L.D. (English Language Development), strategies this web site could just be the extra push to get teachers using their skills learned in their training or perhaps expand their realm of possibilities. I sincerely hope you will consider adding Rohac Educational Solutions to your program this year.
Ron Rohac,
Educational consultant,
educator and president of RES
